Elsbet C. Smith
Elsbet C. Smith graduated from Sweet Briar College in Sweet Briar, Virginia
in 2004, summa cum laude, with a Bachelor of Arts in Art History and Spanish.
Ms. Smith was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society, as well as
Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society and the Sigma Delta Pi Honor Society
for excellence in the study of Spanish language and culture. She lived
and studied in Seville, Spain for a year where she perfected her skills
of the Spanish language.
Ms. Smith received her J.D. and Bachelor of Civil Law from the Paul M.
Hebert Law Center at Louisiana State University in 2007 and was admitted
to the bar in the same year. Her practice areas include estate planning
and successions, as well as business transactions and corporate law including
entity formation and organization, contract negotiations, and real estate matters.
Ms. Smith is involved in her local community and currently serves as Chair-Elect
of the Greater Hammond Chamber of Commerce. She also sits on the board
of directors of the Tangipahoa Economic Development Foundation, the Hammond
Regional Arts Center and the Louisiana Children’s Discovery Center.
She previously served on the board of directors of Ginger Ford Northshore
Fuller Center for Housing, Inc., as vice president of the board of directors
of Child Advocacy Services, and as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of
Ms. Smith is a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association, the Twenty-First
Judicial District Bar Association and the Florida Parishes Inns of Court,
as well as the Northshore Estate Planning Council. She is a regular presenter
at National Business Institute continuing education seminars in the areas
of estate planning and successions. Elsbet and her husband live in downtown
Hammond with their son, James Baker, and their beagle, Bartleby.
