Experience
 

Mr. Ellis was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on February 12, 1944; admitted to bar, 1968, Louisiana, U.S. District Court, Eastern and Middle Districts of Louisiana, U.S. Court of Appeals, Fifth and Eleventh Circuits, U.S. Tax Court and U.S. Supreme Court. He serves as an adjunct Professor, Tulane Law School Trial Advocacy Program.

Mr. Ellis served as an Assistant District Attorney for the Parish of Orleans from 1968 through 1969.  After a short leave of absence for basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, he returned to New Orleans and joined the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Louisiana and eventually became Chief of the Criminal Division.  He was in the United States Attorney’s Office from 1970 through 1974 and prosecuted white collar criminal cases.  As a prosecutor, he tried public and political corruption, and cases involving interstate transportation of pornography.  In 1974, he returned to the District Attorney’s Office as the Chief of Trials for one year.  In 1975, he went into private practice, devoting his time to cases involving personal injury and wrongful death, business and commercial litigation, and white collar criminal defense.
