Williams Speaks During Student Rally at LSU
On July 7, Chehardy Sherman Williams partner James M. Williams spoke at a student-led rally on the Louisiana State University (LSU) campus following the Baton Rouge police shooting of Alton Sterling. Hundreds of college students and community members gathered in the African American Cultural Center and Women’s Center on LSU's campus to make protest signs and share their feelings in response to the killing of Alton Sterling, who was shot by a police officer in Baton Rouge earlier this month. Williams, a member of the LSU Board of Supervisors, joined LSU president and chancellor F. King Alexander as he addressed the crowd during the rally. “We have a lot of concerned students that want to see things better, want to see things change, and we’re giving them every opportunity to get their voices heard,” said King.
