Lawrence Chehardy and the Chehardy Family recognized by the Louisiana Political Hall of Fame

Chehardy Sherman Williams is proud to announce that our managing partner, Lawrence Chehardy, was awarded the Louisiana Political Family of Officeholders Award by the Louisiana Political Hall of Fame for his and his family’s work in Jefferson Parish and Louisiana Politics. In an induction ceremony held on March 12, 2016 at the Cajundome Convention Center in Lafayette, Louisiana, Raymond Strother, a renowned Louisiana political consultant, awarded Lawrence and the Chehardy Family with this prestigious award.

In addition to being an attorney with Chehardy Sherman Williams Law Firm, Lawrence E. Chehardy was Jefferson Parish’s longest-serving Tax Assessor, serving for 34 years, from January 1, 1977 – December 31, 2010. For 11 years, his father also served in this role. Most recently, Chehardy was appointed by Governor John Bel Edwards as the Chairman of Louisiana Tax Commission, which has supervisory jurisdiction over Louisiana’s 64 assessors as well as other important responsibilities.

Please watch this video, which demonstrates the important role the Chehardy Family has played in shaping local and state politics:

“This award means a great deal to me and my family,” says Mr. Chehardy. “I am pleased to be able to continue my father’s legacy as the Jefferson Parish Tax Assessor, and we are so pleased that our family’s dedication to the people of Jefferson Parish and the state has been recognized in this way.”
