David Sherman is a co-managing partner of Chehardy Sherman Williams. Having practiced law for more than four decades, Mr. Sherman has received numerous awards and accolades, and his services are sought out from all over the region. Professionally, he was selected for inclusion in the Best Lawyers in America (2010-2023 editions), he was named a Louisiana Super Lawyer (2007-2023 editions), he was included in the New Orleans Magazine’s 2023 Top Lawyers list, and he was inducted into the New Orleans CityBusiness Leadership in Law Hall of Fame. Mr. Sherman also received the highest rating from Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory regarding legal ability and adherence to ethical standards, professional reliability, and diligence.

As a lifelong resident of New Orleans, community involvement is an important hallmark of Mr. Sherman’s personal and professional career. His has been recognized for his service and commitment to local organizations over the last 40 years. In 2022, he was named a New Orleans ICON by New Orleans CityBusiness. This prestigious award celebrates his leadership skills and dedication to the community. St. Charles Avenue Magazine recently named Mr. Sherman an Activist of the Year. He was also inducted into the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation Hall of Fame for his more than 20 years of service as chairman of the board numerous times. Earlier, he was chosen as the co-chair of the 2022 NCAA Men’s Final Four Local Organizing Committee. The extraordinary dedication Mr. Sherman possesses can be seen through his continuous philanthropic work, including donating hundreds of thousands of dollars of free legal work to local nonprofits.

Mr. Sherman has a multifaceted transactional practice. He represents businesses in all aspects of their planning, including structural planning, tax planning, corporate compliance and operations, contract negotiation, and the sale and acquisition of businesses. Mr. Sherman works with individual clients in their business planning, tax planning, and estate planning. He also serves as legal counsel to numerous healthcare providers, including full-service hospitals, surgery and imaging centers, and medical practices.

Mr. Sherman graduated from the University of New Orleans and received his Juris Doctor degree from Loyola University New Orleans College of Law in 1977, where he was a member of its Law Review and published Donations Mortis Causa, 22 Loyola L. Rev. 768 (1976). In 1978, he received his Master of Law in Taxation from Boston University and is a Fellow of the American College of Tax Counsel. He is a member of the American Bar Association, Louisiana State Bar Association, Jefferson Parish Bar Association, and Bar Association of the Federal Fifth Circuit.

Mr. Sherman holds licenses to practice law in the United States Supreme Court; United States Court of Claims; United States Tax Court; United States Sales Tax Court; United States District Court, Eastern District of Louisiana; United States District Court, Middle District of Louisiana; and United States District Court, Western District Court.
